This Expressionist poster for a cabaret reflects the short-lived but wild atmosphere of the city after the privations of WWI. With its electric color and surrealistic view of a naked mermaid riding a playful fish, we know that hedonism was the word of the day.

Hans Neumann was one of the most important poster artists in Vienna in the Twenties and Thirties. Returning from Berlin in 1919, he set up what would become the leading advertising studio in Austria. Neumann fled the Nazis in 1938 and continued his successful career in Melbourne, Australia.
