As Cassandre's career hit full stride in the late Twenties, he was commissioned to produce this poster for a rail and sea line between London and Holland. It was used with different texts on both sides of the English channel, one in English called "To the Continent" and the other in Dutch, "Naar Engeland (To England)."

The major effect of the poster is its streamlined angular sweep, where a passenger train is tucked into the profile of the ship. It is one of Cassandre's first ocean liner posters and he is already preoccupied with its monumental scale, adapting a view from below the ship and the steam engine to heighten the effect. He would use this low vantage point again with great success in his famous Normandie poster of 1935.

This is a very good example of this rare poster, with spectacular color and luscious textures that reveal the best of stone lithography.
