Television sales finally began to heat up in the Fifties, as more broadcasts became available and sets became less expensive. In France, there was only 1 channel until 1964, and a decade earlier there were only 126,000 sets in the entire country. But companies like Sonora pushed forward, creating wonderfully playful Mid-Century Modern ads to appeal to families and their baby-boomer children.
This ad promotes the 3 TV sizes available - note the large one is a whopping 20 inches wide! And almost all shows, if not all, were broadcast in living - uh - black and white.
