This idyllic image was one of a fine group of posters created in the late Forties by the Greek government to jump-start tourism after WWII and the Greek Civil War. The campaign coincides with the birth of Hellenic Airlines, which offered airline service from Western Europe, including Paris, where this French language poster might have been viewed.

One third of Corfu is fully covered in olive groves, while the rest of the island boasts ancient ruins, scenic beaches and gently rolling hills, making it an idyllic vacation destination. The scene represented is near Corfu's capital city, also called Corfu or Kerkyra in Greek. The small island behind the Church of Panagia on the pier is Pontikonisi (Mouse Island), site of a 12th century monastery that is a popular tourist excursion.
