Italian travel posters from between the World Wars are rare... so, we are pleased to have acquired a collection of fantastic examples, including a gorgeous poster advertising trips to Salerno.

Alicandri, a travel poster specialist, shows a stunning fall view of the famous Amalfi Drive, with the houses of Salerno in the background climbing up Bonadies Mountain. The Lombard castle at the top of the mountain exists today as a museum.

Salerno has been an important cultural center since the 8th century and is the home of Europe's oldest medical school, founded in the 9th century. Beginning in the 1920s, when this poster was commissioned, the Amalfi Coast emerged as a popular winter destination for British aristocracy. This poster was produced for the Italian National Toruist Agency (ENIT).
