Dwarfing the smoking tugboat at its side, a majestic ocean liner heads towards the open sea in this towering 1925 Art Deco poster. Its first significant ships launched since World War I, Cunard went to the unusual length of creating a twin poster with different color scheme to promote the return journey.
The advent of these new ships was well-timed as the Roaring Twenties gathered steam. The launch would be the beginning of a stream of liners from all the European powers that would become more luxurious and faster as the Twenties and Thirties progressed. This poster for the first time offered a daring perspective view and stunning juxtaposition of scale that would feature prominently in the remarkable ocean liner posters of Cassandre and others in the Thirties.
