Leading Pop artist Robert Indiana is most famous for “LOVE,” his Mid-Sixties work showing the four letters of the word arranged as a colorful square with a tilted O. The piece was turned into a postage stamp that was printed over 300 million times, a use for which the artist was paid $1,000. Sculptural versions of the piece have been installed in New York, Bangkok, and Portugal, among other places. Like "LOVE," "Heptagon" was influenced by the artist’s love of the American roadside sign, which he believes is the signature element of the American landscape. This piece is from his iconic portfolio Indiana Polygons.
