A tiny tug pulling a massive ocean liner is a perfect visual metaphor for this 1929 work incentive poster. Displayed in factories, posters like this were intended to instill American values in workers (often immigrants or newcomers to city life) in the Roaring Twenties. The Mather series regularly used the most progressive symbols of modern life such as skyscrapers, ocean liners and airplanes to drive home a point - in this case, the power of little things to make a difference.
