This is a signed and numbered limited edition silkscreen poster by Arnold Skolnick for the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock, created specially for an event at International Poster Gallery.
Skolnick, the creator of the iconic poster for the 1969 rock concert, appeared at the Gallery for a deightful anniversary event which featured a talk and poster signing of both posters on August 6th, 2009.
The new poster is a time capsule in and of itself and cleverly references the original poster as well as the era of psychedelic posters. From a distance we see a white dove announcing the occasion above a sea of blue and green. But upon approach, running lines of text appear, and a ticker tape-like array of prominent personalities, artifacts and events of the era are revealed. Like the dove, all the colors are quotations from the original Woodstock poster, and its Op-Art design alludes to the elusive character of the era's posters.
Understated and elegant, the 40th Anniversary poster is a fitting tribute to an era and to an event which helped to define it.
