Queensland - Off to the North for Warmth, 1938

Trompf, Percy poster: Queensland - Off to the North for Warmth

Born and trained near Melbourne, Percy Trompf became one of the top poster artists in Australia, creating superb designs for the country's nascent travel association and the Queensland Government Tourist Bureau.

This playful Art Deco design promoting the Sunshine Route on the northeast coast of Australia perhaps was inspired by Frank Newbould's East Coast Frolics series in Britain from 1933, which also used asymmetrical layout, bold color, and fun-loving animals - a winning combination.
