Australia - the Great Barrier Reef, 1956 ca.
In the Fifties, three factors contributed to an explosion in Austrialian tourism: Queen Elizabeth's first visit in 1954, the Melbourne Olympics in 1956, and the introduction of speedy long haul Lockheed Super Constellations and Boeing 707s by Qantas.
This poster, one of the most beautiful promoting the Barrier Reef, was published in the mid-Fifties by the Australian National Travel Association (ANTA) and created by Eileen Mayo soon after her immigration to the country. Trained in London and Paris, Mayo created several fine posters for ANTA. The ideal piece for a world traveler, especially one with an ocean view.
