Australia - Koala or Native Bear - ANTA, 1956
Australian tourism exploded in the Fifties due to the introduction of speedy long haul flights by Qantas, the attention generated by Queen Elizabeth's first visit in 1954, and the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.
The Australian National Travel Agency (ANTA) commissioned a superb campaign of travel posters to coincide with the Olympics. They turned to Eileen Mayo, a London and Paris trained artist and recent immigrant to Australia, who featured the unique wonders of the continent in a pristine realistic style.
