Niederlandisch-Indische Kunstausstellung Krefeld, 1906
This avant-garde poster by J. Thorn Prikker for an exhibition of Indonesian art features several shadow puppets, the actors in the important ritual known as Wayang Kulit in Bali. It is an overt reference to the strong impact of the Indonesian colony on Dutch poster art. In Thorn Prikker's skilled hands, the delicate weaving of Javanese motifs amidst san-serif typography is amongst the most beautiful in Art Nouveau art, mesmerizing the viewer.
In excellent condition. One of the most unique of all Art Nouveau posters.
