Grand Prix de Paris - Loterie Nationale, 1936
This is an ingenious and hard-to-find small format French National Lottery poster by Paul Colin where the spectators appear as a sea of ticket numbers. This clever Art Deco design is similar to a large-format poster by Colin for the same event that was produced by another printer; the angle of the track and the numbers are different in the two posters. One of the best horseracing posters!
Colin was one of the pioneers of Art Deco, achieving fame in the early 1920s for creating the images that made Josephine Baker and the Bal Negre famous. Colin would continue to creat masterpieces into the 1950s.
