Robbe, Manuel (1872-1936) poster: Cycles Plasson (women)

Manuel Robbe, a noted Art Nouveau printmaker who trained at the Académie Julien, was one of the many fine artists attracted to the medium by the poster craze of the 1890s.

Although he only made a few posters, his style was unique and memorable. In two designs for Plasson cycles, he featured a very restricted and expressive color palette, most noticeably the bright red sky. Accentuating the design is the human drama of an adventurous woman leaving behind aloof ladies in the background.
