French Line CGT New York Havre Paris in 5 1/2 to 7 days, 1912
This poster from 1912 proudly announces the launch of the SS France, which was by far the fastest, largest and most luxurious ship to date designed by CGT. It was designed to compete with Cunard, White Star, and the best German liners and succeeded admirably. Indeed, the ship launched 1 week after the sinking of the Titanic and established itself quickly.
In many ways the success of the France would provide the game plan for the next generation triumph by the company - the Normandie.
