Fourrures Canton (1949 edition), 1949
This is one of several beautiful designs by Loupot for a Lausanne fur retailer. It is easy to see why, along with Cassandre, he is regarded as the greatest of Art Deco poster artists. Of the two, Loupot was known as the master of color and style. The fur coat in Canton Fourrures seems so soft that it is hard to resist the temptation to reach out and touch it. By simplifying and elongating the figure, he enhances its sleek elegance and exoticism.
This particular design was so well received that it was printed 3 separate times - first in 1924 with a black background, and in the late '30s with a blue background. This third poster was made in 1949 with only the color of the pompoms changed from red to purple. Excellent condition.
