Union (Charcoal briquette), 1943
Buhler's fiery image for a charcoal briquette for home heating was inspired by a Lucian Bernhard poster that was printed thirty years earlier. Bernhard created the first Sachplakat in 1905 in Berlin; Buhler's tromp l'oeil image was even more spectacular. It is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
