Stoecklin, Niklaus poster: Binaca - Dents Saines a l'eclat de Perles

If Zurich was the birthplace of the Swiss Object Poster Style, Basle under the influence of Nicklaus Stoecklin would inherit the style and create most of its masterpieces. Stoecklin, an accomplished Surrealist painter, returned from Munich to begin making posters in 1914. By the Twenties he was creating "Magical Realist" posters, and would continue to do so into the Sixties, like this tour de force toothpaste poster "for pearly white teeth."

Stoecklin inspired all of the Basel poster artists such as Donald Brun and Herbert Leupin, but especially his apprentice from the early Thirties, Peter Birkhauser. Much of their work was printed in Basel by Wasserman, which quickly rose to rival Wolfsenberger of Zurich.
