Taxameter Welti-Furrer Zurich, 1920
This is one of the great Swiss posters by Otto Morach, a leading cubist painter, poster artist and design teacher from Zurich. The poster is the first of two he created for the premier Zurich taxi company, Welti-Furrer.
Morach's Modernist training in Paris is apparent in this soaring view of Zurich's Grossmunster Church and scenic bridges. In the 1920s, taxis were expensive and elegant, and this gorgeously printed poster created an impression that was both indelible and full of civic pride.
