The Irish Mails - LMS, 1938 ca.
As a prolific motor racing illustrator, de Grineau was a master of motion. He brought this skill to bear in a handful of superb large format posters for the LMS railway.
His poster for the Irish Mails captures the drama of two night trains sweeping past each other by the coast near Holyhead, Wales, the transfer point between boat and train when traveling between London and Dublin. In the distance can be seen the Penmaen Bach, which drops 800 feet into the Irish Sea. Spectacular!
