IBM (rebus - 1st Printing), 1981

Rand, Paul poster: IBM (rebus - 1st Printing)

This is the first printing of the rebus design which Paul Rand created for a 1981 design conference of IBM's internal design group. Very few were printed – less than 100, but the design turned out to be so expressive of the IBM way that it was reprinted in 1982 and then in 1992 with slight modifications as an advertising poster. This example came from the estate of Paul Rand.

Along with the IBM logo designed by Rand, the rebus has become one of the definitive designs of all corporate graphics from the Post-War era. It is in leading design collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In excellent condition.
