Emmy Magliani, 1923
Ballerina Emmy Magliani is captured in a flowing pose by Jean-Gabriel Domergue, a leading poster artist in the 1920s and 1930s. His elongated figures and pencil-thin heroines became his signature. In this case, Magliani's partner merely acts as a foil to the stunning prima ballerina. Interestingly, Domergue was a friend of Degas, whose studio was in the same building as Domergue's in Montmartre. Both artists shared a passion for the ballet as subject matter.
