Untitled - Woman Tennis Player (from The Essence of the mode of the day), 1920
This is a plate from the exquisite early Art Deco portfolio by Janine Aghian, illustrating the Joys of the Day. Aghian was an illustrator and fashion designer, starting her career with renowned cotourier Paul Poiret in Paris in the Teens. Aghian's style was in the avant-garde, with cubistic geometry, vibrant fields of color and extremely elongated figures that bordered on pure abstraction. This 15 plate portfoilo of woman in different activites throughout the day is one of the joys of Jazz Age fashion illustration.
