Charge Bravely into Battle and Your Bayonet Will See Blood, 1965
"Only troops that dare to fight armies with bayonets can truly be great. The mark of political and military quality in an army is the bayonet charge, and the mark of an army's bravery is bayonets that have witnessed blood." This poster is from a fierce 1965 series promoting Chinese military preparedness. The posters reflected the increasing tension with the Soviet Union over Communist ideology and diverging policy. So real was the concern for war that the Chinese moved industrial and research facilities away from the Soviet border in the Third Line Defense program. The US build-up in Viet Nam also was a cause for concern to the Chinese - in case hostilities would somehow spill over into China. A complicated web!
