Galerie 65 Cannes - R. Vernet Bonfort, 1966
A richly stylized exhibition poster for painter Robert Vernet-Bonfort (b. 1934), depicting a painterly still life of a flower vase, antique clock and lamp. Vernet-Bonfort is a prominent French painter, having studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Marseille and exhibited widely since the 1950s. He is known as part of the “Modern School of Marseille,” a French Provencal style depicting portraits and landscapes with a vibrant, eclectic interplay of color and form. Posters for his art exhibitions at Galerie 65 were printed by Atelier Mourlot, the Parisian studio known for its striking exhibition posters for French galleries and museums. Since the 1920s, its close collaborations with artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Braque, Miró, and Chagall made their exhibition posters stunning artistic statements in their own right.
