der Blaue Reiter - Galerie Maeght, 1969
An elegant original lithographic poster by Wassily Kandinsky for “der Blaue Reiter,” a group exhibition at Galerie Maeght in 1969. Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) was an important avant-garde German Expressionist artist’s association based in Munich that Kandinsky founded with German artist Franz Marc in 1909, characterized by exploring the spiritual value of art through color and form in abstraction. The poster’s image is a woodcut from 1913 by Kandinsky, from his “Sounds” series described by the artist as a “musical album” of prose-poems and woodcuts. In excellent condition.
