Indian Court Federal Building - Chippewa Picture Writing, Seneca Mask (WPA), 1939
This beautiful design was one of eight made to promote the Indian Federal Court Building at the Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco in 1939. Based on ancient Native American artifacts and drawings, the series is one of the finest poster projects of the WPA period. Created by leading California painter Louis B. Siegriest, they are exquisitely designed and richly printed in lustrous, rich color. The rich subtle harmonies and fine design elements cannot be appreciated fully on a computer screen. Alone or displayed in a group, they are a beauty to behold. Very rare.
