Join the March (Chinese Cultural Revolution Poster),
1971
An endless mass of young Chinese march in unison under a red banner. The man leading the march holds a painting of Mao heading to Anyuan to organize the pivotal miner's strike there in 1922.
Mao's famous walk was used to inspire his Down to the Countryside movement begun in late 1968 that sent millions of urban bourgeoisie youth and college graduates to experience physical labor and worklife away from the city. The goal was to bring revolutionary fervor to the heartland, discourage elitism and tamp civil unrest by youth and Red Guard in the cities.
