Onoranze A Volta - Como,
1899
This elegant poster announces a six-month exposition in honor of the centenary of Volta's discovery of the battery. It is the work of the so-called "father of the Italian poster," Adolfo Hohenstein, who designed costumes and stage sets at La Scala, later becoming the head of the Ricordi lithography shop.
The poster shows the strong influence of the great Art Nouveau master, Alphonse Mucha, in its Byzantine ornamentation and floral decoration. Imbued with classical grace, the poster was printed in two sizes, this being the magnificent large format.
