Take up the Sword of Justice, 1915
The sinking of Cunard's luxurious Lusitania by a U-Boat in 1915 took more than 1,100 lives, including 128 Americans, and evoked a visceral anti-German reaction in England and the US. The great ship sank in 18 minutes, taking with it many leading figures of the era. This famous poster captured the emotional firestorm unleashed around the world. With the Lusitania sinking in the background and drowning passengers everywhere in the dark waters, an allegorical figure of Justice implores the viewer to take up the sword of justice. Ultimately, the atrocity would be a chief reason for US involvement in the war on the side of the Allies. In beautiful condition with bright colors. Very rare.
