This delightful poster was created in 1950 by the Costa Rican government to jump-start tourism after a brief and bitter civil war. The new democratic government abolished a standing army in 1949 and moved swiftly to restore the reputation of the country as one of the most stable and idyllic countries in Central America, which continues to today.
