General Dynamics - Atome im Dienste des Friedens - Aerodynamics, 1955
In 1955, Swiss designer Erik Nitsche became the Art Director for General Dynamics, a leading multi-division technology firm most famous for building the first nuclear submarine. There, Nitsche created nearly 30 spectacular Modernist posters promoting the conglomerate’s various disciplines. This poster was one of several designed for the First International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy in Geneva, August 1955. To promote his company’s expertise in Aerodynamics, Nitsche shows a sinusoidal map of the world bisected by a horizontal and vertical runway – a wonderful visualization of how speed has brought the world closer together.
