The 2nd All-Union Aviation and Chemistry Lottery (Osoaviakhim), 1927
Osoaviakhim, the Society for Support of Aviation and Chemical Construction, was a vast popular organization to make the country air-conscious. Its millions of members gave voluntary service, participated in training, and raised large sums for the construction of aircraft and for air defense. Regular lotteries were another major source of income. Participants were lured with the hope of winning a round-the-world trip for their 50 kopeck ticket. (This poster by Dlugach shows that there would be 11,093 winners of various trips). The Society, supposedly a volunteer organization, was actually tightly controlled by the army.
